Pro-Tips for Your Winter Ober Gatlinburg Visit

If you are a winter-time vacationer, you know that the Smokies are a great place to be during this time of year. Ober Gatlinburg is one of the region's prime attractions in winter. During our visit in the first week of January we realized just how busy it was, even on a weekday.

Here are our pro-tips for Ober:

1) Aim to arrive 15-20 minutes before they open. Cars start lining up well in advance of opening.

2) Enter the car lineup off South Baden road if you arrive late. This is very easy when coming from Woodhaven but requires a bit of a scenic tour if coming from The Overlook. This route drops you into the line just before the gate where you pay for parking ($20 btw).

3) Book snow tubing well before your visit. It was booked up for almost a month when we were there. It's a good thing the boys preferred snowboarding.

4) Send someone inside to get in line before parking. If snow tubing was available, the line would have been huge! Our boys hopped into the lift tickets/rental line at 10am even though it opened at 12pm. The line was about 30 people deep within 15 minutes of opening.

5) If skiing/snowboarding, check to see which runs are open before you go.

6) Bring cash for lockers. They cost $1 every time they are opened.

7) And our biggest pro-tip...if you lose your wallet you can bet it'll be returned, even if full of cash. Lost and found is in Guest Services.

Enjoy your time in the snow!
